Scenes in...

...the market

Thursday 3 - Monday 7 January

The central plaza of Antigua is great for meeting people (or sometimes not, as T found out a couple of times). We met this guy and his family who live in the nearby hills where they farm maize and beans. Surprisingly enough they were eating eggs, tortillas and beans and generously offered us some.

We stayed in Antigua until Sunday when we left for the border with El Salvador and parted ways with Fridge as he dosnt seem to appreciate travelling with us. The night was spent by the sea at the village of Las Islas, thankfully it was much warmer than Antigua and great to be on the beach by the Specific ocean again.

El Salvador border...

...lots of paperwork

The entry into El Savador was the most drawn out process so far, with lots of copies of documents needed to be taken to various offices and no clear directions of what to next. After almost 2 hours of to-ing and fro-ing it was all over and we headed towards the volcanic lake in Cerro Verde. The lakeside is surrounded by some nice houses mostly owned by well off Salvadorenos who holiday here. We managed to find an undeveloped lot to camp on and were woken in the morning by a couple of guys from the bank who owned the land. Needless to say they were well impressed by the landy and offered us the whole area for a bargain $30,000.

Almost vertical descent...

...down to the lake...

...and a great campsite

Thinking better of property investment for now, we headed off to the capital to see what was going on.
