Lots of stuff for the tourist

Thursday 29 - Friday 30 May

Despite the touristyness of Cusco, its still easy to find cheap meals for a dollar or two but the incessant kids selling postcards, girls selling woollen stuff and the shoeshine boys really gets on your nerves.

We went on a city tour which started with the main cathedral which has incredibly rich gold and silver altars, superbly carved choir stalls and the famous painting of the last supper with everybody tucking into a tasty cuy! Unfortunately its forbidden to take pictures for some infathomable reason and there are plenty of people inside to shout if you try and sneak a couple of pics.

Now too expensive to visit a second time

The parents spent a day visiting Machu Picchu, at over $100 for the train ride there and the bus up it wasn't worth T and M going as both have seen it before, instead we tested out the jacuzzi a bit more. More beers later as the folks recounted their Inca adventures.

In Cusco they now have a $10 ticket which allows entry into a number of sites, museums and churches in and around Cusco. Also different now is the Inca Trail which now you have to pay $160 to go on a guided trip. In 2000 we were lucky in being able to walk the trail solo (why need a guide when there's only one path?!).
