The beach at Loreto

Goats at breakfast time

Saturday 01 - Wednesday 05 September

Unsurprisingly, Loreto was not a pumping party town, after watching half the town drive their trucks and battered american cars up and down the beach promenade we hit the local timewarp disco and left after one beer.

San Javier

We did our usual and drove out of town into the desert to camp. Awaking to goats surrounding the landy, we left for the Pacific coast to try and find a quiet beach to learn surfing. Driving along dusty tracks we came across the tiny village of San Javier with an immaculate main street leading to the catholic mission. Heading on, we hit the main highway and drove through Villa Insurgentes and Ciudad Constitucion which have no tourists, meaning the locals wave as we pass and are generally much more friendly than in touristy towns.

whats this thing for?

just us and the crabs on the beach

the landy surveys the terrain...

B gets a little help pumping the tyres back up

After another toasting drive south we found a beautiful deserted beach to chill and try to get the surfing thing knocked on the head, which gave the local crabs a good laugh. After a couple of days we were running low on supplies so took a quick trip to La Paz on the Gulf coast, via some wicked sandy tracks which necessitated lowering the tyre pressures, to stock up. Returning to the beach in the dark, we used the GPS for the first time in anger. The location is N24 03.194' W110 58.625'.

Another amazing sunset...

...more wicked travellers

Todos Santos, a supposedly popular surf spot was next. We drove a hot and sandy 120 kms off road but were disappointed by the touristy shops and poor surf. All the beaches around this area seem to be privately owned (and for sale at high prices too) but we eventually found yet another deserted beach campsite at N23 08.335' W110 07.693'.
