Fri 03 August - Sun 05 August

Finally we were at the docks, the landy was being released. We were really excited to be seeing it and getting the trip underway after all the waiting around. Bryan kindly drove us there on his way to work in Houston. We had arranged to meet the customs import agent and of course he was late but we managed to track down the correct container without him. Lucky we did because two truckloads of customs guys appeared and started chatting to us and asking about the trip and the landy. They were well impressed and dead jealous, so with the formalities sorted we were soon out on the highway.

Entering Austin

Despite the imminent approach of Tropical Storm Barry, we decided to go to Austin as we had heard it was good and we also had a contact - but they were not in town, so we hit 6th Street to check out the nightlife which was fairly bollix and overrated. We drove out of town and found a field to camp in with some deer and rabbits.

Keen to get on with the trip, we headed out west across the massive and hot state of Texas, dodging the ubiquitous trucks that everyone drives here.

Landying into Glasscock county...

...for a spot of lunch

This little truck was driven by a doris!

Roswell is on the way to the Grand Canyon (our main target for the US), so we're off in that direction to cause some incidents of an extratesticle nature!
